Why Glass Table Tops?

Glass Table Tops are an excellent choice for many reasons. Firstly, they are surprisingly versatile and will work with any theme that you have – whether that’s antique, country, minimalist, modern, or whatever else. You can match them with any type of chair that you like, as there is no fear that the glass will not work with them. This means that you have complete freedom, chair wise! Another reason why glass dining tables are great is because they are a reflective surface. They will actually reflect light back into the room and make it look lighter and brighter. Light will also travel through the glass to a certain degree and so a glass table will not look as “dominating” in the space. It will actually make your space feel larger and more open. Don’t think that you are stuck with just clear glass either! You can choose glass that is tinted in a range of different colours (including black!), that is frosted, that is etched, or anything else that you like.

Are Glass Table Tops Safe?

One thing that many people worry about is whether glass dining tables are actually safe, especially if you have kids around. The good news is that they can be just as safe as any other type of dining table, especially since most tables on the market now use tempered safety glass. Safety glass is very resistant to impacts and knocks and in the very unlikely case that it does break, it will break into small cubes, rather than shatter. However, if you have kids in your home and you want to err on the side of caution as much as possible, a glass tabletop that is actually set within a frame is more stable and secure than a sheet of glass mounted on a few supporting members.

Maintaining Glass Tabletops

You might think that it would take a lot of work to maintain a glass dining table but this is not necessarily the case. As most glass dining tables are made from tempered glass, they are quite naturally scratch resistant and heat resistant. Of course, to be safe, you should never place items straight from the stove or oven directly on the glass (use a trivet or similar). If you are worried about small scratches appearing, you can use a tablecloth or placemat to protect the table while you eat. Cleaning wise, a glass dining table can be easily cleaned by using a glass or window cleaner. This will give it a beautiful streak free finish. You can use a wet cloth, but you will need to dry the table afterwards to avoid streaks.
